Getting Around, Sheffield Travel and Sheffield Transport
(Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, UK)
Sheffield is home to plenty of public transport options at very little cost to visitors. If you are planning to travel around the Sheffield area on a particular day, consider purchasing the 'South Yorkshire Day Tripper' pass, which permits unrestricted travel on the city's train, bus and tram transport.
The city's Supertram system is modern, sleek and enviable, and is currently managed by the Stagecoach Group. Trams first arrived in Sheffield in 1994 and have since become an integral part of the city's transport network. For reference, the Sheffield Transport Information Centre is located off Pinstone Street. Here are Sheffield's main types of public transport and travel.
Sheffield Travel and Transport: Travel by Air / Sheffield City Airport and Heliport (SZD) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, UK
Sheffield City Airport and Heliport is a fairly small affair and only actually opened relatively recently, in 1997, due to the city's excellent road and rail network. Mainly used for private charter planes and a number of helicopters, the airport does also feature some flights to and from the Channel Islands and several UK cities during the summer months. Sheffield Airport can be found just 6 km / 4 miles from the city centre, close to both the M1 and M8 motorways.
